I saw the sign...

Signs are markers that point to some easily identifiable reality. Philosophically speaking I could go on and on about their significance we could take both physical and spiritual parallels into account and have a load of linguistic fun.. but I think simply poking fun at them is much more interesting... Some signs have just got to leave you wondering. I love collecting random signs - here are some of my favourites from Italy and Croatia...

I was quite excited by the prospect of seeing some of these critters, unfortunately we didn't see any, but clearly they were there...This i've never seen - pipe smokers singled out in addition to cigarettes...
It's not every day you see a sign telling you not to push your friends off cliffs, but that's what this appears to say. Fair enough i guess!
This was partnered with a few other intersting ones... like this one, telling you not to feed the wolves... but i'm curious - who in their right mind would approach a wolf to feed them?? Surely that's a great example of Natural Selection?
Hmm another of the critters we didn't manage to see. I wonder if they have such signs in Africa? And i wonder if they differentiate between gazelles and ordinary deer, rhinoceros' and hippos?? Just a thought.

This one on the right I loved - on the edge of the wharf - it appears to say, please drive your car into the water HERE!

To the left is a great example of why people who can't spell, should not attempt to be entrapreneurial.

Ok these two are an interesting pair, the first one appears to indicate you can start forest fires here, while the second one intimates that this is certainly not the place to start your forest fires...









Most countries tell you to watch out for children walking calmly across the road, but in Croatia they're a little more realistic - watch out for children sprinting across the road! The funniest thing was that we actually did have some children, holding onto mums hand sprint across the road in front of us at a pedestrian crossing - was a most bizarre thing to watch, standing patiently at roadside, then full on sprinting as fast as the children could go, while we watched in wonder...

there was a couple of interesting signs which we translated as Mez's place... and most usefully this sign which simply appeared to have been put there for Monastra families to take photo's under. Our thanks to the Venetian city council for those...

finally we have this: which is easily translatable in any language - especially wife language!
