ITALIA!!!

Our trip from Dubrovnik - Bari was far from what I would describe as comfortable - kind of like being in a bunk bed on a neverending rollercoaster as the sea rolled us up, and down, up and down, up and down, up and down (you get the idea). Woke many times throughout the night after nearly being thrown out of my top bunk, and once to go and rub Mez's back as she emptied her entire abdominal contents into the toilet. Not pleasant. But we arrived into Bari, managed to get all our bags down the exceedingly narrow gangway and grabbed a taxi to go and pick up our rental. I had decided that to drive the stunning roads of sorrento and the Amalfi coast, we needed to do it in style - so elected to rent a stylish european can - either a Mercedes or BMW mid sized sedan. Didn't want anything too big for those narrow roads. So when we arrived and found our car was a thumping great big Chrysler sedan, I was somewhat surprised and more than a little disappointed. But far too tired to complain, so, realising the bigger car would likely mean greater comfort for the rear-seat passengers, we set off for Sorrento and the chance for Abbey to meet Grandma Judy.

Can't really recall a lot of the drive (was probably a little dodgy driving while that tired!) but was stoked to finally drive into Sorrento - I hadn't realised it was on the edge of cliffs, so the setting was perhaps even more beautiful than I had imagined... When we finally did manage to find our accomodation up in the hills over Sorrento I was absolutely delighted - a huge place we had with commanding views over the entire Bay of Naples, Vesuvius, and off course Sorrento beneath us. Around us were olive and citrus groves, and about 10m down the road a delightful local restaurant with fabulously friendly staff, great food and prices significantly cheaper than down in the town... a great find.

Was great to see mum after so long, and so special to be able to introduce her to her first granddaughter, and to see the almost instant connection with Abbey smiling away delightfully. We managed a bit of a lazy afternoon (on the very comfy leather sofa!!!) and then a relaxed dinner in the nearby restaurant... saving energy for the next day!
