Two months

Wow how time flies... It has been two months since I last wrote anything about... well anything. A lot hasn't happenend in that time! haha! what have the last couple of months held? You know i honestly can't recall a whole lot! I was going to say there hasn't really been too many significant events... but that would belie a postmodern life fixated on the hedonistic excitement gained by lurching from event to event... and i don't want to give away that much. So instead i'll say that life has been full of the most important things - the little things that add to a lifetime of memories. All of the small, day to day, significant reasons we came back to NZ. I've been working, we managed to get to a point where we were personally breaking even with income from the business which was exciting, but mid recession things are still a little slow and a bit up and down. I've been changing my focus at work a little away from growth and more towards looking at margins. Interesting stuff but i won't go on about the trifling details. Probably the biggest excitement has been Mez getting a new passion - she's in the process of developing a website for parents and children on the kapiti coast... So that has pretty well consumed any available spare time - well any of her available spare time. Which indirectly is also any of my available spare time (cos i get to look after the kids while she's tapping away!) Really cool to see her throwing herself at something completely and passionately. She's got back a little of the crazy, zany Mez-ness that had been a little quiet of late. Really awesome. I guesss there's a whole load of discussions that go on in the intervening time but that pretty much covers it. We all continue to get older. My little brother celebrated his 23rd birthday, Sam our wee nephew made his confirmation. The winter has been cold, so we litl lots of fires to keep warm. Actually warm is a bit of an understatement of what happens when we light the fire. Some friends of ours suggested that appropriate attire in our house might be bikini's and swimsuits. A small, well insulated house with a woodburner is a cosy place to be on a cold winter's evening! We've had lots of wine and cheese evenings with friends, and family, watched a bit too much TV, probably eaten too much good food and generally been relaxing... we've hung out with family, spent time, eaten donuts, chopped wood and a little gorse. When it's been fine, which is most of the time, we've played. It's been good. Wholly good.

We even managed to make it to the top of the Hemi Matenga track... which, as it turns out is not actually so far from the first lookout we made it to a while back. We've listened to Lui the Tui, Kiri the Kereru and made a few strange sounds of our own to join in the forst chorus. Good times

And that's about it. I'd go so far as to say i've actually enjoyed the winter. Which is the first time i've enjoyed a winter since, well last year. Mind you last year's winter was 27 degrees every day in Cairns so probably shouldn't count that one. Definately better than our UK winters though. Easily. Hope yours has been smashing too. Ka Kite Ano.
