Yeppoon

Don't you love Australian place names? I reckon i'll have to devote a blog sometime soon to signs in this wonderful country - just love some of the creek names in particular... just down the highway from us we have ginger beer creek (yum!), oaky creek (slightly woody overtones!), stoney creek (aptly named) as well as a plethora of others i can't recall off the top of my head but which bring a smile to my dial everytime i see one.

Anyway, this weekend we went for a bit of drive up to a place called Yeppoon. Yeppoon is a fairly quiet coastal town, probably a bit smaller than Gladstone, but with better facilities... they also had a show on, on the weekend - so we thought we'd go and let Abbey check out the animals and experience a bit of a country show.
Loads of fun to be had - with Alpacas to feed, along with calves, chickens, ducks, and even a duck fashion parade which I have to say was just brilliant - (see pics) those of you that have facebook connections can also view video's of these wee duckies strutting their stuff - definately in the bizarre realm - it never ceases to amaze me what people can get paid to do! This guy has been travelling around Australia for 28years doing his duck fashion parades! What a life! Though have to say country fairs would get a bit tedious after a while not to mention all the kitch toys and stuff you get at such events. Certainly made Abbey's day though, and she clapped at all the right moments, stunning social appropriateness from an 11mth old!
Anyway in addition to the show - we also went for a day to Awoonga dam where we saw our first ever live snake in the wild! Carpet python exhibit A was curled up in a corner of the shady picnic area trying to keep himself out of the chilly wind. Not exactly BBQ weather - unless you're a kiwi of course - and the other couple we went there with were so was all good!
I've also attempted a wee project - after despairing at the lack of wooden toys available anywhere, I decided just to make Abbey a wee wooden cart so that she can walk herself around the house and ride in it... Brilliant result with her beaming from ear to ear when I showed her the uncompleted product and she got to go whizzing down the driveway in it - again those connected to Facebook can have a look at the video (Sorry takes too long to upload to blogger at work!) Worth every drop of sweat to see her appreciative smile! Next job is to paint it with the most splendid bright colours bunnings could find! Needless to say there will be photo's to follow of the completed article!
